Thank you for visiting my website which I have created to share my images. I hope you enjoy looking through them and I hope you find something that you like.
I have been fascinated by photography and photographs for as long as I can remember and I enjoy trying to capture the world as I see it. I currently use a Fujifilm XT-4, which is a great camera. I much prefer to use a mirrorless system as it is much lighter to carry than the heavy DSLRs that I have used in the past.
I am enjoying the more creative features on the Fuji and have a couple of vintage and specialist lenses which also allow me to create more creative images.
I have used a range of different types of cameras over the years but my photography really took off when I got my first digital SLR in 2008. Being able to see the image you have just taken is such a help and probably did more to improve my technique than anything else. Although, now I am more confident in my abilities I try to resist the temptation to 'chimp' all the time ('chimp' being the term for checking your image on the camera's LCD screen).
I am self-taught and concentrate on taking images that I like rather than images that are 'correct'. As an art form photography is about expression, as with any other art form, and I will happily use a variety of techniques both in camera or later in post-processing to create the final image. I try to capture the best starting image in camera but will use a combination of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to finish the image. In camera techniques that I enjoy using are long exposure, intentional camera movement and multiple exposures. Last year I also tried camera-less image making using the wet cyanotype process. This has been a really interesting learning process and I will share my images on here too.
I live in Somerset and many of my images are taken in and around the South West of England. I love going to the coast and capturing seascapes, visiting heritage properties to photograph the wonderful flowers and plants on display in their beautiful gardens, exploring towns and cities to capture the beauty of buildings and street scenes and wander through the countryside to marvel at the wonderful landscapes that we have.
I also enjoy travelling further afield so there is also a selection of images from some of the many trips I have been fortunate to take over the years. I have visited Cuba, Venice, Berlin, Vienna, China and Japan recently with my husband. I have also been lucky to take a couple of trips with my photography friends to Harris and Skye and am hoping to go to Iceland later in the year for a photographic workshop.
